Jeremiah 17 (The Message)
Jeremiah 17:5-10
5-6God's Message: "Cursed is the strong one who depends on mere humans,Who thinks he can make it on muscle alone and sets God aside as dead weight. He's like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows.
7-8"But blessed is the man who trusts me, God, the woman who sticks with God.They're like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers—Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf,Serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.
9-10"The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out.But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind.I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things.I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be."
Mike's thoughts:
There you have it. For the past few days we have been reading about how people follow God, but then they suddenly decide to follow their own ways. God is a great and good God. His ways are great and good. His plans for us are great and good. His love for us is great and good. But we alone are not great and good. If we place our trust in him, rather than in our fellow man or in our own hearts, we will experience his greatness and goodness. It is easy to trust in a man that we can see or our hearts that we can feel. To not trust the things we can see and feel goes against everything we have been taught since we were kids. Remember, God has designed and created us. We must trust the things we CANNOT see, touch, or feel. Trust those things you can experience when you live for them, because when you live for those things you will experience their greatness and goodness. Don't look for it or feel for it, just live for it.
Prayer:
God, thanks for your greatness and goodness. Thanks that you created us and know us better than we know ourselves. Thanks that we can experience your greatness and goodness. Help us to not trust man nor our hearts, but to trust you. Help us to live for you and trust you completely.
